Department of Education, Local Businesses and Nonprofits Team Up at MCC

Girls at Work received support from the New Hampshire Department of Education to host an entire week of building with inner-city girls from both the Manchester and Nashua Girls Inc. programs.

The local chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction partnered with us and were instrumental in making the week a success. Not only did they provide amazing volunteers–you rock Mary Laternau and Catherine Schoenenberger!–but they also found area businesses to donate all the lumber needed to build for the entire week.

We held the build at Manchester Community College where many of the staff stopped by, repeatedly in awe of our builders. Once the staff got beyond the shock of seeing the girls directing their own builds, they happily purchased the completed benches, chairs and picnic tables that were built with so much pride.

All proceeds will go toward additional programming of inner city girls next summer. A huge thank you to the Concord Monitor, the Nashua Telegraph and the Union Leader for covering our story! The Concord Monitor even wrote a great editorial about Girls at Work!
